I saw this on Austin Book’s twitter today. It’s the cover to the Unite and Take Over anthology that they commissioned me to do a exclusive variant cover for. When asked if I liked the Smiths over a cryptic text, I said, “yes.”
I realized I only had one album, and when I got home I realized I had no albums. So, I acquired their discography and began to listen for ideas.
I then realized that I only kind of like the Smiths in retrospect.
One of the guidelines I was given was that I couldn’t use anyone’s likeness. So, they’re shop-lifters. Lifting a shop, kind of dressed up as Morrissey styled hipsters..taking over? Any ways, I drew the store mascot fighting them with his extended super family (which were all created by me with exception of Austin Books Man’s head).
If you like Austin Books, The Smiths, or any of the creators involved in the Anthology, go pick it up at Austin Books.
